A closer look
What the research shows
Human topical research
A trial in 169 people with epidermolysis bullosa compared 6% allantoin cream with its vehicle for three months. The allantoin cream did not significantly improve either primary wound-closure outcome.
What this does not tell us
This was a rare blistering disorder, not a cosmetic skin concern. Its negative primary results do not support a general wound-healing claim, and the trial does not evaluate ordinary lower-concentration skincare.
