What the research shows
Human topical research
In 117 children with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis, eight weeks of virgin coconut oil improved dermatitis severity and barrier measurements more than mineral oil.
What this does not tell us
Evidence applies to the virgin oil preparation and this pediatric dermatitis setting; it does not establish equivalent efficacy for every refined oil or finished cosmetic.
