Panel supported maleic acid cosmetic safety specifically as a pH adjuster under described use, with low residual free acid after neutralization. Irritation at strong/concentrated acid exposures. Conclusion is pH-adjuster-specific, not exfoliation or broad skin benefit. Local mouthrinse copolymer is distinct.
