A closer look
What the research shows
Human topical research
A blinded, vehicle-controlled dexpanthenol study reported increased hydration and reduced water loss after seven days. Another study compared formulas with 0.5%, 1% or 5% panthenol, reporting lower water loss after 30 days with the 1% and 5% formulas.
What this does not tell us
The dexpanthenol abstract does not give sample size or concentration. The second abstract does not report randomisation or sample size. A panthenol label alone does not reveal the exact form, dose or performance of the finished product.
