A closer look
What the research shows
Selected research
A small 20-person acne pilot reported greater lesion improvement on the side treated with resveratrol gel than with its vehicle after 60 days. A later eight-week trial in 134 women found increased cheek and jaw sebum with 1.5% topical trans-resveratrol. A significant wrinkle-score advantage was found only in the combined oral and topical group.
What this does not tell us
The acne pilot used fixed right-versus-left allocation and needs larger confirmation. The later industry-funded trial had 122 completers and changed two participants between analysis groups after stopping capsules. Topical treatment alone did not demonstrate a significant wrinkle advantage, and the oral combination result cannot be attributed to a cream alone.
