- Azelaic Acid
Controlled studies tested 20% azelaic acid cream in people with diagnosed acne, including a vehicle comparison in 92 patients. This medicinal-strength research does not establish treatment effects for another concentration or an azelaic acid derivative.
- Gluconolactone
A trial in 150 patients compared a 14% gluconolactone lotion with its vehicle and benzoyl peroxide, reporting fewer inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions with active treatment. The abstract does not report duration or numerical effect sizes; the result cannot be transferred to lower-strength cosmetics.
Human topical research
A comparative study of gluconolactone versus benzoyl peroxide in the treatment of acne.
